Stillness in the Storm
Protecting my peace in a noisy world.
The world can be distracting and sometimes, downright deafening.
The noise and static is amplified for an introvert like me who finds peace in moments of stillness within the storm, the quiet between each breath.
It’s like hearing a loud house party blasting away down the street.
You can’t control where it comes from, when it happens, or how it gets to you, and yet here it is at your doorstep.
Often at the most inconvenient time and when you least expect it.
Penetrating your peace.
Penetrating the walls, if not shaking it like a snow globe.
In these moments, I find myself holding my breath sometimes, as if physically and emotionally bracing for what’s next.
I remind myself that the only thing I need to focus on is my next breath.
Deep breath in.
Hold it.
You got this.
Exhale slowly.
Easy peasy, right?
You know what they say…
If you can do it once, you can do it again.
Inhale stillness.
Exhale tension.
Return to stillness.
Return to your breath.
I close my eyes to block out any distractions in my line of sight.
The world fades out of view.
I fade in to the void.
The silence in the stillness.
I am one with my breath.
I am the stillness in each breath.
The eye of the storm.
Finding my way back to balance.
Back to center.
Back to calm.
Back to clarity.
I remind myself,
“I respond with stillness, not contraction.”
When the volume of the world is on full blast,
how do you protect your peace?
